MANILA, Philippines—The operators of the Skyway System from Makati to Alabang and the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) from Alabang to Sto. Tomas, Batangas, have warned speedsters and reckless drivers that the speed limit will be strictly enforced while violators will be issued traffic violation starting next month.

Skyway O&M Corp. (Somco) operates the Skyway System while Manila Toll Expressway System (Mates) operates SLEx.

With the help of laser speed guns and closed circuit television cameras, speeding and reckless drivers at SLEx can now be easily apprehended at all exit points at the at-grade and elevated sections of the Skyway System.

Similarly, speed-limit violators and reckless drivers on the Skyway System bound for Alabang, Muntinlupa, can be apprehended at any exit point of the expressway. Both Somco and Mates are equipped with the latest model of laser speed cameras.

FEATURED STORIES

Reckless driving, particularly speeding, poses a big danger not only to the driver themselves but also to other motorists.

The SLEx management urges motorists to strictly observe the speed limit of 100 kph for cars, jeeps and pickups not more than 7 feet high and 80 kph for buses and trucks. The minimum speed remains at 60 kph. The Citra-SMH consortium will soon put in place additional safety measures at the SLEx, like reflectors on the roadway’s shoulders and antiglare panels at the tollway median, among others.
