Signal No. 1 up in 4 areas due to Tropical Storm Odette
MANILA, Philippines — Four areas — three in Mindanao and one in the Visayas — were put under Signal No. 1 on Tuesday night due to Severe Tropical Storm Odette, according to the 11 p.m. of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
As of 10 p.m., the eye of the storm was located 890 kilometers east of Mindanao, moving west-northwest at 15 kph. It had maximum sustained winds of 100 kph near the center with a gustiness of up to 125 kph.
Following under the areas under Storm Signal No. 1:
Visayas
• southeastern portion of Eastern Samar (Guiuan, Mercedes, Salcedo)

• eastern portion of Surigao del Norte (Claver, Surigao City, Tagana-An, Placer, Gigaquit, Bacauag) including Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands
• northern portion of Surigao del Sur (Carrascal, Cantilan, Madrid, Cortes, Carmen, Lanuza)
Due to the trough, or the extension, of Odette, those areas will have light to moderate with at times heavy rains on Wednesday.
Based on its current track, Odette is forecast to make landfall in the vicinity of Caraga or Eastern Visayas in the afternoon or evening of Thursday, Dec. 16.
