MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday announced that the process of finalizing the list of candidates for the 2022 elections will take at least two more weeks.
According to Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez, the official list of candidates will not be released as scheduled on Dec. 15.
“The list of official candidates will not be released tomorrow as there are still a number of unresolved nuisance cases,” Jimenez told reporters.
“We expect that the process of finalizing the list of candidates will take at least two more weeks,” he added.
The filing of COCs was conducted last October 1 to 8, while the substitution of candidates was filed until November 15.
Two notable aspirants, specifically Senator Bong Go and President Rodrigo Duterte, have officially withdrawn from the presidential and senatorial race, respectively.
Some of the aspirants left gunning for the presidential seat include Vice President Leni Robredo, Senators Manny Pacquiao and Ping Lacson, former senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.
