The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday condemned the killing of an acting election officer in Northern Samar, as they call on authorities to “leave no stone unturned” in their investigation.

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday condemned the killing of an acting election officer in Northern Samar, as they call on authorities to “leave no stone unturned” in their investigation.

“The Comelec condemns the craven killing of Acting Election Officer James Diaz Maghanoy,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez told reporters.

“The entire Commission calls on the authorities to leave no stone unturned in its probe of the murder of Maghanoy, and to ensure that those responsible are brought swiftly to justice,” Jimenez added.

A local election officer of Lope de Vega town in Northern Samar, Maghanoy, 42, was on his way home from work when the assailants shot him on Thursday afternoon.

The victim, who was shot at close range in Barangay Somoge, Catarman town, also in Northern Samar, suffered gunshot wounds in the body and head.

Authorities are still investigating possible motives for the crime.
