MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has opened a program for the hiring of more encoders to address the COVID-19 vaccination data backlog, Interior Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said.

“So, nakipag-ugnayan po tayo sa Department of Labor and Employment at ang maganda naman pong balita ay binuksan po ng DOLE ang kanilang government internship program para po makapag-hire tayo ng additional encoders,” Malaya said during the Laging Handa briefing.

“So, for NCR (National Capital Region), mayroon po silang binuksang 100 slots na pwedeng i-hire na mga encoders na ia-assign natin sa iba’t ibang mga local government units na nangangailangan ng additional encoders,” he added.

According to Malaya, the government faces the problem of encoder shortage as daily vaccinations are being ramped up.

“Ang problema po kasi natin sa encoding ng vaccination data is the problem of the sufficient number of encoders,” he said.

(Our problem in encoding the vaccination data is we lack a sufficient number of encoders.)

“Kasi nga po, habang tumataas po ‘yung ating vaccination, we need more encoders to be encoding the vaccination line list na pinapadala po sa DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology) at sa DOH (Department of Health),” said Malaya.

Earlier, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said that they may issue show-cause orders to local government units that fail to submit their vaccination records every day.

This came after 10 million vaccination data were not uploaded in the Vaccine Operating Reporting System.
