Manila Archbishop Advincula hits politicians who use the poor ‘for own gain’
MANILA, Philippines — Manila Archbishop Cardinal Jose Advincula on Monday criticized those who are running for elective post and use the poor for their own gain, or only when it’s election season.
Advincula said this after he led a dialogue at the Manila Cathedral with representatives of the different marginalized sectors in the archdiocese.
“When we just remember the poor and put them on the center stage because it’s election time or because it’s the World Day of the Poor, we are more miserable than them,” he added.
Meanwhile, Advincula also called on the people to resist and fight issues that plight the marginalized in a message for the World Day of the Poor celebrated on Nov. 14.
“Let us fight any force and structure of oppression, exploitation, and the use of the poor to advance their selfish interests and welfare,” Advincula said.
