MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte lauded the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Sunday for maintaining a “humane and efficient” system for over a century.

Duterte made the remark as BuCor celebrates its 116th anniversary.

“For more than a century, the bureau has maintained a humane and efficient correctional system for people deprived of liberty while at the same time ensuring the safety of our society,” he said in a video message.

“May you continue to serve our justice system and entire nation with dedication, accountability, and integrity. I wish you a happy occasion at mabuhay kayong lahat (long live),” the chief executive added.

In September 2019, the Senate uncovered a “good conduct, time allowance (GCTA) for sale” scheme at BuCor.

Duterte vowed to fire BuCor officials linked to corruption of the controversial GCTA law mess.

He then ordered for the total revamp of the agency due to alleged corruption.
