MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil has ordered the law enforcement agency to speed up filing and handling of cases against erring officers.
This came a day after National Police Commission (Napolcom) Vice Chairperson Rafael Calinisan said the commission aims to clear its case backlog by the end of the year and expedite the processes to finish cases against cops for alleged misconduct within 60 to 90 days.
“The latest instructions of Chief PNP Gen. Rommel Marbil is to speed up our people who handle cases, especially the cases of misconduct to quickly remove the officers involved from the service,” PNP Public Information Office Chief Col. Randulf Tuaño said in Filipino during the Saturday News Forum in Quezon City.
Tuaño further shared that the police force dismissed 1,375 officers from the service in 2024.
Eight of the 1,375 officers were lieutenant colonels, the highest rank among those dismissed, the PNP public information chief added.
He also touted that the PNP resolved over 3,000 cases against erring officers last year.

Additionally, Tuaño was asked what new steps the PNP was implementing to crack down on police officers violating the law.
He answered, “Itong latest na instruction, tatanggalin natin at bubuksan natin ang kanilang bangko sa tulong ng AMLC (Anti-Money Laundering Council), na tanggalin yung mga fruit of the crime or yung mga nakaw nila sa mga kalokohan na ginawa nila.”
