Cebu City cemeteries closed from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2

CEBU CITY––Contrary to earlier plans, Mayor Michael Rama announced Tuesday that all cemeteries in this city would be closed to the public from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government has ordered governors and mayors across the country to close all cemeteries before and during the celebration of All Saints’ and Souls’ Days to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

“We are not hard-headed. The Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging and Infectious Diseases (IATF) may have reasons why they did not allow us,” said Rama during a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

Rama earlier sent a letter to the IATF to open all cemeteries in the city to fully vaccinated individuals on Nov 1 and 2.

“(Since our request was turned down), I urge all stakeholders to follow the directive of the IATF and the DILG,” he said.
