MANILA, Philippines — Bayan Muna chairperson and senatorial candidate Neri Colmenares said his group is in discussions with Vice President Leni Robredo about including him in the opposition’s senatorial slate.
Colmenares said in a text message to INQUIRER.net on Wednesday that the talks are still ongoing, but no decision has been made so far.
“Talks are ongoing on my inclusion in her slate. Nothing definite yet,” the former lawmaker said.
Another source who asked not to be named said that aside from Colmenares, labor leader Sonny Matula is also talking with the Vice President about his senatorial bid.
Robredo confirmed her presidential candidacy last Thursday after filing her certificate of candidacy before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on the same day.
Robredo, running as an independent candidate despite being chair of the Liberal Party, has only confirmed five names for her senatorial slate. They are incumbent Senators Risa Hontiveros and Leila de Lima, former senator Antonio Trillanes, former Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat and human rights lawyer Chel Diokno.
