MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga––COVID-19 claimed the lives of 25 more residents in Aurora within a week, data from the province’s emergency operations center show.

The rise in its death toll came before the province got a reprieve on Sunday when it registered zero deaths and only 17 new cases.

On Saturday, Oct. 9, the province recorded 53 new COVID-19 cases, 33 recoveries, and four deaths.

FEATURED STORIES

The COVID-19 cases in the province have increased by 163 in a week, while those who recovered have risen by 155 during the same period.

In late September, Aurora Gov. Gerardo Noveras asked his constituents to strictly abide by the minimum health protocols, like wearing face masks and keeping their distance from other persons in public places, and to report to authorities if they have COVID-19 symptoms.

“There have been so many depressing stories of deaths in our province due to COVID. Most of them were about ignoring the symptoms they were feeling until it was already too late for them to receive medical attention and treatment,” he said.

He also advised Aurora residents to get vaccinated against COVID-19, and asked those who are vaccinated fully not to be too complacent, as they could still contract the disease and infect others.

Noveras cited himself as an example. He tested positive for COVID-19 on June 3 this year, about a month after receiving his second dose of the Sinovac vaccine.

Aurora has registered 3,261 cases since the pandemic broke out last year. Of these, 2,785 have recovered, while 171 have died. Those still sick stood at 305 as of Sunday.
