55 inmates in Eastern Samar get jabbed

TACLOBAN CITY—At least 55 inmates at the Eastern Samar Provincial Jail in Borongan City were given Tuesday their first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19.

Four other inmates were not given the Sinovac vaccine since they were either minors or with comorbidity, or refused outright, said provincial jail warden Samuel Afable in a radio interview.

Of the 55 inoculated inmates, four were women.

They will receive their second dose on Nov. 3.

The vaccination of the inmates at the jail facility was in response to the call of both the provincial and city governments, Afable said.

He also said that inmates detained at the different sub-provincial jails would be vaccinated.

Afable said no inmates from the provincial jail tested positive for the virus.

He stressed they were complying strictly with all the mandatory health protocols to ensure that no one gets infected with COVID-19.

Afable also announced that inmates could now receive visits from their loved ones as ordered by Gov. Ben Evardone.

Conjugal visits, however, are still prohibited.
