MANILA, Philippines — The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) on Wednesday ordered an investigation into the emergency alerts that popped up while Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr was filing his certificate of candidacy (COC) for president.
“You are hereby directed to immediately investigate the attached ’emergency alerts’ as reported by the media today,” said the NTC in a memorandum addressed to Director of the Regulations Branch Imelda Walciens.
“You are further directed to submit your report and recommendations immediately upon completion of your investigation,” the memo added.
This developed after emergency alerts popped up on mobile phones at the Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City, not for a quake or a storm, but to scream support for Bongbong Marcos, son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos. He filed his COC for president on Wednesday.
