Over 500,000 residents in Quezon got COVID-19 jabs

LUCENA CITY––A total of 511,416 residents in Quezon province have been vaccinated as of Sunday against COVID-19, the provincial public information office (PIO), reported citing the latest data from the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO).
The Quezon PIO said 270,219 people of this figure had been fully vaccinated, while 241,197 had their first dose.
All Quezon municipalities have been conducting vaccination rollouts to help prevent the spread of SARS-Cov2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
The vaccines were provided by the Department of Health.
The province needs to inoculate at least 70 percent or 1,485,981 of its population of 2,122,830 (2015 census) to achieve herd immunity.
Quezon, which remains under general community quarantine with heightened restrictions, has been seeing an alarming surge in COVID-19 cases amid the ongoing threat of the highly transmissible Delta variant.
From Oct. 1 to 3, the IPHO recorded 397 new COVID-19 cases, or an average of 132 a day.
Last month, Quezon recorded the highest monthly tallies in new cases and fatalities since the pandemic started in 2020.
The IPHO logged 5,343 cases in September or at least 178 a day.
On Sept. 30, at least 286 of the total deaths were recorded, or an average of nine deaths daily.
As of Oct. 3, the COVID-19 death toll stood at 1,274.
The province has 2,038 active infections as of Oct. 3, down from 2,570 active cases on Sept. 21, the highest single-day tally since the pandemic started.
Lucena City, the Quezon capital, which will remain under strict modified enhanced community quarantine until Oct. 15, topped the list with 462 active virus carriers.
