2 alleged NPA rebels yield in Occidental Mindoro

LUCENA CITY—Two alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered Monday to authorities in Occidental Mindoro province, the military said Tuesday.

The NPA rebel submitted himself to authorities around 8 a.m. and turned over one caliber .45 pistol and an improvised explosive device, said a report of the Army 2nd Infantry Division based in Tanay, Rizal, posted Tuesday on social media.

The military also reported that another NPA rebel, who surrendered on Aug. 26, in the same province, handed one M16 rifle to local authorities an hour later.

The identities of the rebels were being withheld for security reasons.

Major General Rowen Tolentino, 2nd ID commander, expressed thanks to local officials who facilitated the surrender.

The 2nd ID also reported that on Aug. 26, at least 46 NPA supporters in General Nakar town in Quezon province withdrew their support to the communist insurgents.
