MANILA, Philippines — The proposed renaming of Roosevelt Avenue in Quezon City after late movie star Fernando Poe Jr. is another step closer to becoming a law after getting the approval of the House of Representatives.
This came after the House concurred with the Senate version of the measure during Tuesday’s session.
The measure initially sought to rename Del Monte Avenue to Fernando Poe Jr. Avenue.
However, Senate President Vicente Sotto III proposed an amendment prior to the measure’s second reading approval to have Roosevelt Avenue renamed instead.
Senator Grace Poe, daughter of the movie icon, abstained from voting when the upper chamber tackled the measure early September.
“I purposely abstained because of our rule that it might be a conflict of interest but in my heart, I am so happy that this passed,” Poe said.
