MANILA, Philippines — Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula is starting to recover from COVID-19 and is no longer showing symptoms of the virus, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) reported Wednesday.

Chancellor of the archdiocese Fr. Reginald Malicdem added that the 69-year old cardinal is just completing his quarantine.

“He is on the road to recovery. The cardinal has no more symptoms of COVID-19,” Advincula said.

Advincula tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, prompting him to go on quarantine. He said he had no symptoms aside from fever.

Advincula is fully vaccinated against COVID-19 even before he was installed as Manila archbishop in June, according to the CBCP.

Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles, CBCP president is asking the faithful to continue praying for Advincula’s full recovery. He also called on all the bishops nationwide to include the full recovery of Advincula in their daily Mass intentions.

“We also entreat the faithful to pray for the good Cardinal so that he can resume his important ministry in the Archdiocese of Manila and the universal Church,” Valles said.
