MANILA, Philippines — The number of enrolees for School Year 2021-2022 surpassed last school year’s numbers, the Department of Education (DepEd) reported on Wednesday.

Based on DepEd’s latest enrolment figure, a total of 26,308,875 learners have registered for the current school year, exceeding last year’s 26,227,022.

Most of the enrolees were listed in public schools (20,029,767).

Meanwhile, 1,668,489 and 53,292 students registered in private schools and state or local universities and colleges, respectively.

There were 4,557,327 early registrants recorded.

The Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region still has the most enrolees at 3,440,205 while the Cordillera Administrative Region has the least, with 462,338.

A separate enrolment count presented that only 199,422 students have enrolled under the alternative learning system. The figure is 33.27 percent of last year’s 599,365.

The increase in figures was reported as DepEd extended the enrolment period until September 30, 2021.
