SY 2021-2022 enrolees now over 25.5 million — DepEd
MANILA, Philippines — The number of enrolees for school year 2021-2022 increased to over 25.5 million on Tuesday after the Department of Education (DepEd) extended the enrolment period until September 30.
DepEd’s latest enrolment figure showed that a total of 25,582,224 students have registered for the current school year which has started Monday.
The number is 97.5 percent of last year’s total of 26,227,022.
Public schools have the biggest chunk of registered learners at 19,411,039. Private learning facilities and state and local universities and colleges have 1,563,321 and 50,537 listed students, respectively.
Based on a separate enrolment count, 198,297 students have logged under the alternative learning system. The figure is 33.08 percent of last year’s total 599,365 learners.
Despite kicking off the school year on Monday, DepEd stretched the enrolment in public schools in consideration of limitations and challenges to community quarantine restrictions.
Private schools, state and local colleges and universities that follow DepEd’s school opening schedule were likewise urged to accept late enrolees.
The government is still implementing the blended learning system to curb COVID-19 transmission among students.
