COVID-19 death toll in PH reaches 34,672 with 174 more casualties

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 174 additional COVID-19 patients in the country have died, taking the total number of deaths due to coronavirus to 34,672, the Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday.

The deaths compose 1.62 percent of the 2.1 million total confirmed cases of the disease in the country, based on the latest DOH bulletin.

The DOH has noted an increase in deaths in August as testing laboratories also report higher numbers of COVID-19 cases due to the highly transmissible Delta variant.

The health department said they reported 114 deaths per day in August, higher than the 97 average deaths in July and 106 in June.

By reporting date, the DOH has so far logged 1,219 deaths in September. These include the 173 deaths reported on Sunday, 103 on Monday, and 161 on Tuesday as stated in case bulletins.

There are now 151,135 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, 1.5 percent of which are severe and 0.7 percent are critical that are at higher risk for death.
