MANILA, Philippines — The construction of the 20-story San Sebastian Residences in Quiapo will start as the Manila City government broke ground on Monday.
“Walang magiging iskwater sa Maynila pagdating ng panahon. May awa ang Diyos. Nagawa ng ibang bansa, nagawa nila, kaya rin nating magawa dito sa Lungsod ng Maynila,” Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said in a statement.
(In time, there will be no informal settlers in Manila. God has mercy. Other countries have done it, we can also do it here in Manila City.)
The San Sebastian Residences will have 243 residential units with an area of 40 square meters each, 58 parking slots, health center, police sub-station, four elevators for residential units, swimming pool, function room, fitness center, roof garden, three units rentable space, activity areas, and roof deck play area.
Domagoso mentioned that they will continue to provide dignity to those in need while responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Lalakbayin natin at kakaharapin natin ang lahat ng hamon na ito, hamon ng ating buhay at sigurado ako ang committment namin kayo kasama niyo kami sa barkong iyan. Hindi namin kayo iiwan,” the mayor expressed.
(We will voyage and face all of our life challenges, and I assure that we’re with you on that ship. We will not leave you.)
For her part, Manila City Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan shared the same sentiment with Domagoso.
“Kinikilala natin ang karapatan ng bawat nilalang na magkaroon ng ligtas, disente, at abot kayang tuluyan na matatawag nilang sariling pag-aari—dahil tinataguyod nito ang dignidad ng tao,” the official said.
(We recognize the right of each individual to have a safe, decent, and affordable home that they can claim as their own—because it upholds a person’s dignity.)
The 20-story San Sebastian Residences is Manila City’s sixth housing project after Tondominium 1 and 2, Binondominium, BaseCommunity, San Lazaro Residences, and the Pedro Gil Residences.
