MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Manila will start the construction of 20-story Pedro Gil Residences in San Andres Bukid after it broke ground on Monday.
“We will not stop. We will put roof over people’s heads. Bibigyan natin ng kapanatagan sa pamumuhay ang mga taong habangbuhay na lang nangungupahan. We will give them homes,” Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said in a statement.
(We will not stop. We will put roofs over people’s heads. We will give assurance in life for those who rented their whole lives. We will give them homes.)
The Pedro Gil Residences will have 309 residential units with two bedrooms, 125 parking slots, health center, five elevators for residential units, swimming pool, activity lawn, function room, fitness center, a garden at the roof deck on the 6th floor, five units of rentable space, outdoor activity area in three floors, a basketball court at the roof deck.
Informal settlers, renters, and government employees may use the space for P2,000 per month.
Moreno noted that despite the pandemic, the project seeks to uplift the status of individuals living in informal settlements.
“Habang busy tayong tumatakas sa pandemya, kailangan tuloy ang ating mga pangarap. Nakakapagod. Pero hindi baleng pagod basta makita kong nakangiti kayo masaya na ako,” the city chief executive said.
(While we are busy escaping the pandemic, our dream should continue. It’s tiring. But, it’s fine, as long as I see them smile, I’m happy.)
The Pedro Gil Residences is the fifth housing project of the local government unit for informal settlers and renters in the city of Manila. The other projects are the Tondominium 1, Tondominium 2, Binondominium, and the BaseCommunity.
