DAVAO CITY—The Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), the biggest government-run hospital in Mindanao, has announced that it has experienced a high volume of COVID-19 patients that needed to be admitted.
“Please bear with us as we try to allocate rooms/beds and provide the healthcare you need,” the management of the 1,453-bed hospital announced.
It reported that on August 30, its 448-bed ward and 92-bed intensive care unit were full.
Based on the data of the Department of Health (DOH) regional office as of August 29, available facilities in the region are 46 out of the 229 beds for intensive care, 327 out of 744 beds for isolation, and 68 out of the 102 mechanical ventilators.
Aside from the SPMC, another big government-run hospital that caters to COVID-19 cases is the 600-bed Davao Regional Medical Center in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
The DOH reported Friday that the number of new cases in the region was 885, bringing the number of active cases to 13,043. Of these new cases, 426 were from Davao City, 17 from Davao de Oro, 176 from Davao del Norte, 135 from Davao del Sur, 105 from Davao Occidental, and 26 from Davao Oriental.
