Davao City continues to top list of LGUs with most logged COVID cases — OCTA

MANILA, Philippines — Davao City continues to lead the list of local government units (LGUs) with the most daily recorded number of COVID-19 cases, OCTA Research said on Sunday.

According to the latest monitoring report released by OCTA, however, Davao City experienced a slight drop in its daily average with 225 COVID-19 cases on July 11 to July 17 compared to 235 in the previous week’s.

Meanwhile, a rapid increase in new cases were reported in Mariveles (incidence rate currently at 47.08 percent), Lapu Lapu (11.16 percent) and Laoag (40.03 percent).

Mariveles’ average daily cases rose to 66 from 21, while Lapu Lapu’s rose to 50 from 31 and Laoag to 46 from 25.

OCTA Research listed Quezon City, Cebu, Iloilo City, Bacolod, Manila, and Mariveles as the LGUs with the highest number of daily reported cases after Davao City.

High-risk areas according to OCTA are: Davao, Iloilo city, Bacolod, General Santos, Baguio, Lapu Lapu, Laoag, and Sta. Rosa, while Mariveles is listed as very high risk.

Intensive care unit utilization rate, on the other hand, continues to be at a critical level in Davao City at 96 percent, and Iloilo city at 97 percent.

Health experts earlier reported that the Philippines now has a total of 1,502,359 COVID-19 cases as of July 17, with 47,257 active cases, 1,428,604 recoveries, and 26,598 deaths.
