LUCENA CITY – A total of 885,669 Batangas residents have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Friday, September 3.

The Batangas Public Information Office (PIO), quoting information from Dr. Rosvilinda Ozaeta, provincial health officer, reported that 339,633 individuals in the province have been fully vaccinated.

The PIO also reported that 546,036 residents of the province were injected with the first dose.

The vaccines were provided by the Department of Health.

Batangas would need to inoculate at least 70 percent or 2,035,945 of its 2,908,494 population as of the 2020 census to achieve herd immunity.

Batangas, which remains under general community quarantine with heightened restrictions until Sept. 7, had been recording an upward trend in COVID-19 cases.

In August, Batangas logged 8,053 COVID-19 cases and 286 deaths compared to July records of 2,884 cases and 133 deaths.

As of Sept. 3, Batangas has logged 46,263 cases, 39,381 recoveries and 1,637 deaths since the pandemic started in March last year. The province still has 5,245 active cases.
