DOH logs 193 more COVID-19 deaths

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported 193 deaths on Friday, bringing the country’s coronavirus death toll to 33,837.

According to DOH, the deaths make up 1.66 percent of the country’s 2.04 million confirmed cases of COVID-19. The World Health Organization earlier pointed out that the case fatality rate in the country for the disease is at a low level.

The Philippines now has 158,994 active cases of coronavirus infections, of which 1 percent are severe and 0.5 percent are critical that are at higher risk for death. Intensive care beds, on the other hand, are 72 percent occupied.

The majority or 96.5 percent of the active infections are mild, 1.1 percent are asymptomatic, and 0.92 percent are moderate cases.

The DOH earlier noted an increase in deaths in August at 114 deaths per day, higher than the 97 average deaths in July and 106 in June.
