CHEd: Infection among med students ‘very, very low’

/ 04:33 AM September 01, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — Only less than 1 percent of more than 9,000 medical and allied sciences students were infected with the coronavirus during the limited implementation of in-person classes in colleges and universities in the country, the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) said on Tuesday, as it awaited President Rodrigo Duterte’s approval of the pilot study’s expansion to other courses.

Prospero de Vera III, chair of CHEd, said the infection rate was “very, very low” and should not be a cause for concern.

“All the [infected] students were asymptomatic, meaning nobody among [them] was hospitalized,” De Vera said at a televised public briefing.
