Muntinlupa residential compound placed under ‘extreme localized lockdown’

MANILA, Philippines — Another residential compound was placed under an extreme localized community quarantine (ELCQ) in Muntinlupa City after an alarming spike in COVID-19 cases.

Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi ordered Unira Compound in Barangay Tunasan placed under a 15-day ELCQ from 12:00 p.m. of August 29 until September 13 on the recommendation of the City Health Office (CHO).

“Unira Compound is a residential area with 199 residents and has high-risk groups including eight senior citizens, four persons with disability (PWD), a pregnant woman, and 21 children aged less than 5 years old,” the local government of Muntinlupa said in the statement.

According to the Muntinlupa CHO, a clustering of cases was recorded in the area, as well as a high attack rate of 301.50 per 10,000 population and that the time it would take for the number of cases to double or so-called doubling time is only 3 days. To date, there are six active cases in the area.

The CHO said it will reinforce mass testing and contact tracing in the area while the city police will enforce security measures.

Further, the City’s Social Service Department and the barangay will provide food packs and other basic items for the affected residents during the ELCQ.

The Unira compound is the 11th area in Muntinlupa City to be placed under localized lockdown in August.

Other areas with ongoing lockdown in the city include the Dizon Compound, Number 22, St. Bernard Street, San Jose Village, Barangay Cupang (August 28 until September 12); Mahogany St., and Kamagong St. in Villa Carolina 2, Barangay. Tunasan (August 24 to September 8); Building 2, BLISS Complex, Barangay Putatan (August 23 to September 7); Building 17 in Filinvest Socialized Housing, Barangay Alabang  (August 19 to September 2); and Angelo St., Horrileno St., Endencia St., Paredes St., and Barrera St. in Katarungan Village, Barangay Poblacion (August 19 to September 2.)

As of August 28, Muntinlupa City has recorded a total of 19,424 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 16,497 recoveries, 2,492 active cases, and 435 reported deaths.

Muntinlupa City along with the rest of Metro Manila is under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine, the second strictest quarantine measure, until September 7 due to another surge in COVID-19 cases.
