Metro Manila, 15 other areas under MECQ until September 7

MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila will remain under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until September 7, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque announced Saturday.

In a statement, Roque said that the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) “retained the modified enhanced community quarantine status of the National Capital Region.”

Also under MECQ from until the said period are Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Bulacan, Bataan, Cavite, Lucena City, Rizal, Laguna, Aklan, Iloilo province, Iloilo City, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu City, Mandaue City, and Cagayan de Oro City.

Roqueadded that Metro Manila, Bataan and Laguna “shall have added restrictions on dining, personal care services and religious activities.”

Meanwhile, the following areas were placed under general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions:

-Ilocos Sur
-Cagayan
-Quezon
-Batangas
-Naga City
-Antique
-Bacolod City
-Capiz
-Cebu Province
-Negros Oriental
-Zamboanga del Sur
-Misamis Oriental
-Davao City
-Davao del Norte
-Davao Occidental
-Davao de Oro
-Butuan City

Twenty-five areas were placed under the normal GCQ:

-Baguio City
-Santiago City
-Quirino
-Isabela
-Nueva Vizcaya
-Tarlac
-Puerto Princesa
-Guimaras
-Negros Occidental
-Zamboanga Sibugay
-Zamboanga City
-Zamboanga del Norte
-Davao Oriental
-Davao del Sur
-General Santos City
-Sultan Kudarat
-Sarangani
-North Cotabato
-South Cotabato
-Agusan del Norte
-Agusan del Sur
-Surigao del Norte
-Surigao del Sur
-Dinagat Islands
-Cotabato City

“All other areas shall be placed under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ). This latest community quarantine classification shall take effect beginning September 1 until September 7, 2021, pending a change in community quarantine guidelines,” said Roque.

The restrictions were set in place amid rising COVID-19 cases.

The Philippines has 142,531 active COVID-19 cases, including additional 17,447 cases on Friday—the second highest single-day record since the start of the pandemic.
