Almost half of NCR cities have more than 70% hospital bed occupancy — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — Almost half of Metro Manila cities have more than 70 percent hospital bed utilization amid the renewed surge of COVID-19 cases in the country, the Department of Health (DOH) said Saturday.

“Dito sa NCR, ang utilization ng ating mga hospital, mayroong almost 50 percent of our cities na ang bed utilization nila ay nasa more than 70 percent na,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

(Here in NCR, almost 50 percent of our cities have bed utilization of more than 70 percent.)

However, based on DOH data as of August 23, nine out of 17 local government units in Metro Manila already have more than 70 percent hospital bed utilization.

These are Navotas (73.33 percent), Valenzuela (79.49 percent), Pateros (88.24 percent), Pasig (75.87 percent), Quezon City (82.37 percent), Makati (81.55 percent), San Juan (74.05 percent), Muntinlupa (71.09 percent), and Las Piñas (78.13 percent).

Meanwhile, Vergeire added that intensive care unit (ICU) utilization is more than 70 percent in all Metro Manila cities except for six localities.

Based on DOH data as of August 23, only Malabon, Caloocan, Pateros, Pasig, Mandaluyong, and Manila have less than 70 percent ICU utilization in the capital region.

“We are assisting to expand beds, place tents and modular hospitals sa mga lugar na ito para makapag-accomodate pa tayo ng mas maraming pasyente (in these hospitals so that we can accommodate more patients)” Vergeire assured.
