15 more coal plant workers in Zambales test positive for COVID-19

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales—The number of active COVID-19 cases in this province climbed to a record-high of 835 after 108 more patients were reported Wednesday.

Dr. Noel Bueno, provincial health director, told the Inquirer that 15 of the latest cases were employees of Masinloc coal-fired power plant, who were exposed to their fellow workers.

At least 75 workers in the power plant are recuperating from the viral disease.

Bueno also reported 62 new recoveries on the same day, bringing to 4,643 the total number of patients cleared of COVID-19 in the province.

The province’s COVID-19 death toll on Wednesday still stood at 167, with no new deaths.

Since last year, Zambales has recorded 5,645 COVID-19 cases.
