MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-nine children in Pasig City have tested positive for COVID-19, Mayor Vico Sotto disclosed on Wednesday.

“Right now, we have — hindi naman ganun kataas ‘yung bilang — nasa 30 lang po, 29 to be exact. Twenty-nine children are positive with COVID-19,” Sotto shared in an interview with INQside Look.

Sotto said the figure is low, noting that Pasig City has 1,726 active cases. However, the city government saw an upward trend among children with COVID-19 compared to previous months.

“It’s not a big percentage considering that more than 1,000 people are infected. But, we have observed an increase in the number of children infected,” Sotto explained.

The mayor also said there were some instances when families would enter a quarantine facility, together with their children.

“May mga pagkakataon na pumapasok sa quarantine facility namin… pami-pamilya kasama ‘yung mga bata. Kasama ‘yung mga three, five years old,” Sotto mentioned.

Despite the rise, Sotto suggested that the government must first complete its vaccination of the A1 to A5 priority groups first before starting children’s immunization.

“‘Pag tinignan ‘yung A3, A4, A5, ang haba pa po ng waitlist natin… Para sa’kin tapusin muna natin ‘to kasi matagal na sila nag-aantay,” the official said, adding that they have around 200,000 waitlisted individuals.

(If you look at A3, A4, A5, the waitlist is lengthy… For me, we should complete the vaccination in the list first because they are waiting for too long.)
