MANILA, Philippines — Senator Richard Gordon on Wednesday likened himself to a “Michael Jordan on the bench” as he has yet to categorically confirm seeking the presidency in the 2022 elections.

“I’m a Michael Jordan on the bench,” Gordon said in an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel when asked regarding his certainty in joining the presidential race in next year’s polls.

Should he push through with a presidential bid, Gordon said he would be banking on his track record as a public servant.

“I don’t let the odds faze me. I never let the odds faze me, if I’m right for the position and I can do it, I will fight based on my record, not based on the odds,” he added.

This, after he condemned the release of pre-election surveys as “irresponsible.”

“I don’t want to reveal my cards even for the Senate,” he added, when asked to name those he is considering for a possible slate in 2022.

It was in early May when Gordon said he was studying the possibility of running for president.

Recently, he confirmed meeting with Vice President Leni Robredo over a possible “partnership” in the 2022 elections.

“I never offered her anything and she never offered me anything, we just talked about the political situation and we asked each other certain things that might happen and the answer was affirmative,” Gordon said during Wednesday’s interview but he no longer elaborated.
