Gordon in talks with Robredo for possible ‘partnership’ ahead of 2022 polls
MANILA, Philippines — Senator Richard Gordon disclosed Wednesday that he is in talks with Vice President Leni Robredo over a possible “partnership” in the 2022 national elections.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel, Gordon, who earlier expressed interest for the presidential post, was asked regarding his possible running mate in 2022 should his presidential bid push through.
Gordon initially said “it will be a surprise,” but later disclosed that he is in talks with Robredo. The senator, however, refused to divulge the contents of their discussion. `
“I don’t know if I’m allowed by the Vice President, we had a chat last week. But I don’t want to say anything about what we talked about,” he said.
Asked if they spoke about a possible “partnership” in the 2022 elections, Gordon said: “Yes, for transparency’s sake because lalabas at lalabas ‘yan. Pero hindi namin pinag-usapan kung sino ang kandidato.”
Robredo‘s name has been floating as a possible opposition candidate for the presidential post in next year’s election. The vice president herself has said that she is open to run for presidency, but has yet to announce a final decision on her election plans as of posting time.
Asked if this means he is willing to run as a vice president instead, Gordon said: “I’ll let her say that. I won’t say it. I’ll let her say that because I know where I am going.”
“She knows where she is going as well and she is a very nice lady and that’s what we need–respectable people who will run the country,” Gordon said.
