OB-GYN services in Pasay hospital closed amid rising COVID-19 cases among staff

MANILA, Philippines — The Pasay City General Hospital (PCGH) on Tuesday closed its Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB-GYN) services until August 26 due to an increasing number of hospital staff infected with COVID-19.

“Please be informed that our Obstetrics and Gynecology services will be temporarily closed until August 26 due to significant number of medical officers who are now with COVID-19 infection and with history of high-risk exposure,” said the city in a Memorandum.

It added that its OB-GYN services will resume if the repeated swab tests of exposed residents turn out negative, “otherwise closure will extend until August 30, 2021.”

Remaining patients in the OB-GYN ward will be discharged by medical specialists, according to the memorandum.

As of August 17, the Pasay Public Information Office (PIO) said that the total COVID-19 bed occupancy in PCGH is currently at 79 percent while intensive care unit occupancy is at 72 percent.

“ER (emergency room) is currently open for COVID and urgent Non-COVID patients, [but] only Pasay residents will be accepted for both COVID and NON-COVID admissions unless admissions coming from one hospital command center,” said the PIO.

The country currently has a total of 1,765,675 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to health experts as of August 17. This includes 105,787 active cases and 30,462 deaths.
