PDP-Laban open to alliance with HNP, may finalize list after Sept. 8

The PDP-Laban is in talks with other parties for alliances and may announce the finalized list after September 8.

MANILA, Philippines — The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) is in talks with other parties for alliances and may announce the finalized list after September 8, its acting Secretary General Melvin Matibag said on Tuesday.

“‘Yung talks with other parties, nangyayari naman. Pero, ‘yung parang finalized talaga at saka magkaroon ng solid agreement will be siguro at a later date. Baka after pa nga nung September 8 ‘yan eh,” Matibag said in a virtual media briefing.

(The talks with other parties are happening. But, the finalized one and the one with a solid agreement may be at a later date. Maybe after September 8.)

The official bared that they have had a meeting with the Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte (MRRD) National Executive Coordinating Committee.

When asked if PDP-Laban has talked to the Nacionalista Party, Matibag answered: “Well, ayun nga, sabi ko walang formal talks pero syempre they will have candidate which will be part of the administration ticket, so sigurado magkakaroon ng talks,” referring to Public Works Secretary Mark Villar who the party is considering for the senatorial slate.

(Well, as I said, there are no formal talks yet but of course, they will have a candidate which will be part of the administration ticket, so there will be talks.)

The secretary-general also said that they are open to having an alliance with the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), a regional political party with presidential daughter Sara Duterte as the chairperson.

“We are open, of course, to an alliance with the local parties, not only with Hukbong, but other local political parties,” Matibag shared.
