Military vehicle damaged in grenade blast in Oriental Mindoro

CITY OF CALAPAN – A vehicle that belongs to the Philippine Army was damaged after an unidentified person threw a hand grenade at a military convoy in Bulalacao town in Oriental Mindoro province on Saturday night, police said Sunday.

Police Corporal Michael Dollano, investigator on the case at the Bulalacao police, said in a phone interview that the vehicle, part of a six-vehicle convoy, was traveling through the national highway in Barangay (village) San Roque when an unknown person threw the hand grenade at the convoy at around 9:45 p.m.

The convoy was transporting a company of soldiers under First Lieutenant Jan Dominic Nava, assistant commanding officer of the 96th Infantry Brigade, 9th Infantry Division.

The third vehicle of the convoy was hit by the exploded hand grenade.

No firefight took place after the incident and no one was hurt.

Dollano said the soldiers came from Occidental Mindoro and were on their way to a military camp in Bansud town in Oriental Mindoro when the attack happened.

Investigation is ongoing, said Dollano.
