MANILA, Philippines — Manila mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso is now the president of Aksyon Demokratiko, which he joined just a week ago.

“We saw in Yorme someone with a clean track record, tangible accomplishments, and a vision that the party shares,” said Ernest Ramel, said the party’s newly-elected Chairperson in a statement Thursday.

“We are confident that he will be able to help lead the party in its thrust to be a unifying force in an atmosphere of heavy political polarization,” Ramel added.

Domagoso said he was “honored” to be elected as president of the party.

“It is an honor to be a part and be elected a President of a progressive party with genuine concern for our countrymen,” Domagoso said in a statement.

Moreno, last Thusday, said that he left the National Unity Organization (NUP)  to search for a new political party that prioritizes the welfare of the people rather than a single person.

He resigned as vice chairman for political affairs and member of NUP ahead of filing candidacies for the 2022 polls.

The former actor has yet to say whether his transfer to Aksyon Demokratiko would mean he will be running for a higher post in the 2022 national elections.

For her part, Sonia Roco, the party co-founder and chairperson emeritus, said: “The vision of Aksyon and Raul Roco for the country can only be realized if we all continue to motivate young, progressive, reform-oriented leaders to take on leadership roles, especially in public service.”

Ramel succeeded the former party chairperson Herminio Aquino, former Congressman of Tarlac, who succumbed to cancer on July 31.

Concepcion, Tarlac Mayor Andres Lacson serves as the vice chairperson, while Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto retains his post as executive vice-president.

Replacing Ramel as the party’s secretary-general is former National Youth Commission Chairperson Leon Flores III.

Manila City Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna and Atty. Bobbit Roco takes on the roles of vice president (VP) for Internal Affairs and VP for External Affairs respectively.

These are the other national officers of the Aksyon Demokratiko:

Aksyon is the political party founded by the late Senator Raul Roco in 1997.
