A teenage cryptocurrency trader from Cabo Frio, Brazil, who had reportedly flaunted his wealth on social media was shot dead inside his sports car.

Wesley Pessano, 19, was shot while he was driving his car to a hairdresser near Sao Pedro da Aldeia in Brazil, as per The Independent yesterday, Aug. 10.

Authorities said the ambush occurred in broad daylight and that Pessano received at least four bullets. One of the shots was aimed at his head.

Aside from Pessano, there was another car passenger (name withheld) who was injured during the shooting. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Pessano’s death comes as gangs in Brazil have reportedly increased, targeting influencers and traders who have been “Insta-bragging” their wealth on social media, as per The Sun last Monday, Aug. 9.

The victim was said to have made a fortune while trading Bitcoin over the past three years. He has over 134,000 followers on Instagram and more than 15,000 subscribers on YouTube. It is speculated that Pessano’s death was related to his promoting his financial success and lifestyle online.

Police have not identified any suspects or possible motives for the killing. Investigation on the case is still ongoing as of this writing. Dana Cruz /ra
