MANILA, Philippines — The Capitol Medical Center (CMC) in Quezon City announced on Tuesday that it has reached full bed capacity for coronavirus disease patients in its emergency room, intensive care unit (ICU), and COVID-19 wards.
“We would like to inform the public that we have reached full bed capacity for COVID cases in the emergency room, ICU, and wards until further notice,” the hospital management posted on its Facebook page at 5:28 p.m.
The hospital, however, said it remains open for non-COVID patients seeking medical assistance or treatment.
The CMC management urged COVID-19 patients in need of medical assistance to refer to the One Hospital Command Center for alternative health care facilities.
Other hospitals in Metro Manila have also announced that it has reached full capacity for COVID-19 patients.
On August 7, just a day after Metro Manila returned to enhance community quarantine or ECQ, the Philippine General Hospital announced that its ICU has reached full capacity.
Meanwhile, on August 9, St. Luke’s Medical Center likewise announced that its Taguig and Quezon City branches have reached full capacity for COVID-19 patients. The Medical City in Pasig also issued such an announcement.
Similarly, the Philippine Red Cross earlier announced that its field hospitals are nearing full capacity.
Metro Manila was placed on ECQ from August 6-20 in a bid to prevent the further spread of the dreaded COVID-19 Delta variant.
The government said confirmed coronavirus cases nationwide stood at 1,676,156 as of August 10. This includes the 79,016 active cases, 1,567,920 recoveries, and 29,220 deaths.
