Mandaluyong City achieves population protection vs COVID-19

In Mandaluyong City,  Mayor Menchie Abalos announces that the city reached its target early.

MANILA, Philippines — Mandaluyong City has achieved population protection after administering 325,188 first doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

“We’re happy to announce that we’ve reached our target this early. Our next goal is to complete the remaining 2nd dose for those who have yet to receive it,” Mandaluyong City Mayor Menchie Abalos said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to data from the City Health Department, the figure represents 100.01 percent as of August 9.

The population of Mandaluyong City is 464,467. The number of residents qualified for a vaccine is 70 percent or 325,127 individuals.

As of July 28, the city had immunized 31,257 senior citizens. Of these, 25,597 have received their second dose.

According to the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs, the city has 29,749 senior citizens.

Abalos attributed the immunizations’ success to the combined efforts of the local government, the private sector, and Mandaluyong residents.

“This is the accomplishment not only of the city government but of every Mandaleño who were inoculated,  thinking not only of their own safety but of their families and communities as well,” Abalos said.
