Cop dies after own gun accidentally discharged in Oriental Mindoro

CITY OF CALAPAN – A police officer was killed after his gun accidentally went off in Puerto Galera town in Oriental Mindoro province on Wednesday, a report said.

The Oriental Mindoro police said Police Corporal Argie Ager, 34, accidentally discharged his long firearm while cleaning it at around 7:35 a.m. in Barangay Aninuan.

The firearm “hit Ager on his lower jaw and exited on the top side of his head,” said the report.

Ager is assigned at 3rd Platoon, 404th Regional Mobile Force Battalion and is a resident of Barangay Sabang in the same town.

His firearm was earlier issued to him for conducting routine patrol operation in connection with the visit of the chief of the Philippine National Police General Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar.

An investigation is still ongoing, police said.
