MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) will open its COVID-19 vaccination site along Edsa on Thursday, August 5.

In a statement released Wednesday, the PRC said doctors and nurses from the Mandaluyong City government and a Department of Health representative inspected the vaccination center located at Edsa corner Boni Avenue prior to its soft opening.

PRC Health Services Manager Mark Abrigo said the Edsa vaccination site will prioritize senior citizens and persons with comorbidities for now as it offers the COVID-19 vaccine from Johnson & Johnson. Overseas Filipino workers who are set to receive Moderna’s jab will also be accommodated.

Dr. John Cris Janlandon-on of the Mandaluyong City local government team assured that Mayor Menchie Abalos will be supporting the PRC’s new inoculation site as it will help boost the national immunization program.

Meanwhile, PRC chairman and CEO Senator Richard Gordon renewed his call for efficient vaccination.

“The best protection against COVID-19 is to get vaccinated.  This is why we need to vaccinate as many people as we can immediately,” Gordon said in a statement.

The Edsa vaccination center is the PRC’s 14th inoculation facility. Seventeen additional sites are eyed to be built nationwide before the end of 2021.
