MANILA, Philippines — Two alleys in Barangay San Dionisio in Parañaque City have been placed under lockdown due to a suspected case of the highly contagious COVID-19 Delta variant, Mayor Edwin Olivarez said Friday.
Olivarez said the city implemented a lockdown in the areas as “prevention and precaution” since a family there is suspected to have been infected with the Delta variant.
He pointed out that six out of eight members of the family have tested positive for the coronavirus.
“Hindi na kami naghintay ng aming results sa genome sequencing. Ni-lockdown na natin para ‘yung within the vicinity ma-control natin itong paglaganap nitong COVID,” he said in an interview on ABS CBN’s TeleRadyo.

Initial investigation found that none of the infected individuals are overseas Filipino workers so it could be a local transmission, should they be confirmed to be Delta variant cases or cases of other variants, Olivarez said.
The city has likewise conducted contact tracing among the residents there, he added.
All of the confirmed COVID-19 cases in the said family are asymptomatic and were already brought to the city’s isolation facilities.
Three of the confirmed cases were vaccinated while the rest of the family are yet to be inoculated, Olivarez said.
The results of the genome sequencing is expected to be out on Friday, he added.
The Department of Health earlier said Metro Manila so far has 25 cases of the Delta variant, one of which is from Parañaque.
Olivarez said this is different from the suspected case in Brgy. San Dionisio.
He said the confirmed Delta variant case in the city has already recovered and had been quarantined in a national isolation facility before coming home to Parañaque.
