MANILA, Philippines — A police master sergeant was arrested for allegedly demanding money from an applicant who was promised to be included in the final list of the new batch of recruits, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported on Tuesday.

Police chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said that authorities under Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) arrested Police Master Sgt. Edmund Olaviano Delos Reyes in an entrapment operation at a fast food chain at Colonel Boni Serrano Avenue in Barangay Bagong Lipunan, Quezon City on Monday evening.

Eleazar said that Delos Reyes, who was assigned at the PNP Crime Laboratory Group, demanded an amount of P6,000 from the victim and promising him to be included in the final list of new batch of PNP recruits who will take oath on July 30.

Delos Reyes was brought to IMEG Headquarters in Camp Crame in Quezon City for documentation.

Eleazar said the case is being investigated to determine who are the other people in cahoots with the suspect in this illegal scheme.

“Ang ating PNP recruitment procedure ay dapat hindi nababahiran ng anumang katiwalian o korapsyon upang masiguro natin ang integridad ng ating proseso at maging patas sa lahat ng mga aplikante,” Eleazar said in a statement.

(Our PNP recruitment procedure should not be marred with corruption to ensure the integrity of our processes as well as to be fair with all of the applicants.)
