CITY OF CALAPAN––The local government units (LGUs) in Occidental Mindoro are conducting contact tracing after cases of COVID-19 UK and South African variants were reported in the localities, Dr. Ma Teresa Tan, Provincial Health Officer, said in an interview Tuesday.
“Yes, we have cases of alpha and beta variants in the province sequenced by PGC (Philippine Genome Center). San Jose has 18 UK (Alpha) and four SA (Beta) variants. There are also cases in Magsaysay, San Jose, Sablayan, and Mamburao. All have recovered,” said Tan.
She did not give other information regarding the cases.
“The LGUs are now tasked with contact tracing the second and third generation contacts of this cases,” she said.
Since the pandemic started in March 2020, Occidental Mindoro has reported 1,956 COVID-19 cases, with 144 active ones in San Jose with 51, Sablayan with 37, and Mamburao with 25. At least 1,754 had recovered, and 58 had died.
