Woman kills self

Desperation and despair reportedly drove a 31-year-old woman to hang herself in Manila on Sunday night. In her suicide note, Anabele Gutierrez, a resident of Gapan Street in Gagalangin, Tondo, said she was tired of living as she asked her family to forgive her for taking her life. Her body was found at around 7 p.m. inside her room, with pieces of clothes braided into a makeshift rope looped around her neck. Senior Police Officer 1 Milbert Balinggan of the Manila Police District homicide section said Gutierrez was last seen alive at around 10 a.m. on Sunday before she went inside her room. Her mother told the police that she could not think of any reason for her daughter to take her own life. Jeannette I. Andrade

Road cleared of ‘trash’

Quezon City government personnel yesterday cleared Luzon Avenue, from the corner of Commonwealth Avenue to Congressional Avenue extension, of illegal vendors, illegal tricycle terminals and garbage. According to city market administrator Donato Matias, the move was in response to complaints about road obstructions in the area. In addition, the ongoing construction of a C-5 flyover, which will connect the C-5 Road to the North Luzon Expressway, has been delayed due to the illegal structures, he said in a phone interview.
