MANILA, Philippines — More than P24 million worth of fully grown marijuana plants were destroyed in Tinglayan town in Kalinga, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Thursday.
In a statement, PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said the PNP and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency uprooted more or less 123,500 fully grown marijuana plants worth P24.7 million in a three-day operation in Barangay Loccong.
“The eradication drive was launched from July 19-21 in the mountainous area of five sites at Barangay Loccong, Tinglayan, and Kalinga,” Eleazar said.
Eleazar said the people behind the plantation are yet to be identified but the PNP has leads to track them down.
“Manhunt operations are underway to arrest the suspect, and appropriate court charges await the weed cultivators,” he said.
Once identified, the suspect will face charges in violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
