DOH logs 5,676 more COVID-19 cases

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported 5,676 more COVID-19 cases on Friday, pushing the country’s active coronavirus infection count to 48,480.

According to the DOH, active cases compose 3.2 percent of all the 1,496,328 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, another 2,670 patients have recovered from COVID-19, pushing the recovery count to 1,421,372. or 95 percent of the tally.

The DOH said 162 more patients have died. The country’s COVID-19 death toll is now 26,476 or 1.77 percent of the confirmed cases.

According to the DOH, 11 percent of 51,384 people who were tested were found positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday.

The health department removed 13 duplicates, including 10 recoveries, from the total case count.

It added that 28 cases earlier tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases while 116 cases that were initially tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational on Wednesday but three labs were not able to submit their data on time. Based on data in the last 14 days, the three non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 2.4 percent of samples tested and 0.9 percent of positive individuals.
