PMMA cadet found dead in barracks’ restroom

SAN ANTONIO, ZAMBALES – A cadet of the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) in San Narciso town was found dead Tuesday inside the restroom of the academy, authorities said.

In a statement, the PMMA identified the cadet as Fourth Class Jonash Bondoc. He was found unconscious at the Alpha Company Barracks around 6:30 a.m.

Bondoc was immediately brought to the nearby San Marcelino District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The cause of the cadet’s death was not immediately known but the PMMA said the commandant of cadets, battalion officer, and company officer have tendered their “courtesy resignations” to give way to “impartial and speedy investigation of the matter.”
